The Lifting Hearts Therapy Garden (Teb Txhawb Siab), hosted by Groundswell Conservancy at Westport Farm and in partnership with the Southeast Asian Healing Center, is a program for HMoob elders who are refugees and veterans of the Vietnam War. While living with PTSD, dementia, and depression, they have found healing through gardening. Since agriculture is central to HMoob culture, gardening can often calm the lingering stress of wartime and stress. It also boosts self-worth in being able to contribute food to family.
In response to the challenges of elders, ag service providers, and caretakers trying to balance the delicate transitions of aging, self-identity through growing, and life, Marbleseed is engaging community members to share experiences and have conversations.
This training is to honor our elders’ knowledge, their identities as producers, and to uplift caretakers and ag service providers to build skills, confidence, and gain insights from the stress of this role.
This event will be in both English and the HMoob language. Interpretation for these two languages will be available onsite. For any questions, please contact Nou Thao, nou.thao@marbleseed.org, (888) 906-6737 Ext. 723.
